Corporate Fued Results in No Watching Full Daily Show or Colbert Report Online
'Daily Show,' 'Colbert Report' Cease Streaming Online Due To Viacom vs. DirecTV Battle
Staff Report
El Segundo, CA - Fans of the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and the Colbert Report may have noticed that you can no longer watch the full shows via online streaming on the Comedy Central website.
The Huffington Post blog has wrote about the cessation of Stewart and Colbert and say it has something to go with the battle between Viacom and DirecTV.
Basically, DirecTV does not want to pay the fees to run 26 channels from Viacom. In order to make sure all of their channels are sold, media companies usually sell them in bundles. In this case, Comedy Central is one of the channels that DirecTV has blocked, saying that the programming was available for free online.
A short time after, the full length streaming episodes of both The Daily Show and Colbert Report were taken off the Comedy Central website. Short clips of the show were still available at the website, with many pirated clips also available on YouTube.
The Daily Show and "The Colbert Report" were both on hiatus this week. However, their official websites have been running advertisements encouraging fans to call DirecTV to voice support of Viacom shows, including the Comedy Central hits that, according to my grandmother, inform her more than the local news broadcasts on television.
