Dark Knight Massacre: Shooting One of Worst in US History

Police Say  'Sophisticated' Bomb in Suspect's Home, 12 Dead and nearly 60 Wounded

Staff Report

AURORA, CO - A lone-gunman, dressed in a gas mask and bullet proof armor and carrying an assault rifle and other weapons made his way into a screening of the new Batman movie - The Dark Knight Rises - and began shooting, killing at least a dozen and injuring many more.

When captured after the shooting, James Holmes, 24, claimed he was "The Joker," and warned police of explosive booby-traps at his apartment.

"The pictures we have from inside the apartment are pretty disturbing considering how elaborate the apartment is booby trapped," police said outside of the apartment complex today, according to Good Morning America.  The "flammable and explosive" materials might have blown up Holmes' apartment building and the ones near it, police said.

According to reports at The Denver Post, "Police arrested Holmes minutes after they arrived at the movie theater. Holmes surrendered to officers behind the theater, near a white Hyundai. Holmes remains in custody. His first court appearance will be Monday."
