Staff Report
MUNCIE, IN - It’s back-to-school season, which means rushed mornings, busy afternoons, and earlier bedtimes for many children and parents. The Muncie Children’s Museum wants to help families stay healthy and active during this stressful time by offering a variety of programs focused on nutrition and exercise in August.
Visit MCM on Sunday, August 12 for Half Price Sunday, Olympic style! To coincide with the Olympic closing ceremony, MCM will offer indoor volleyball, relay races, and torch crafts from 1-5 p.m. Admission is just $3 for all ages on this day.
On Free Saturday, August 18, the entire family can enjoy a downtown scavenger hunt from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. This and other activities will prepare families for MCM’s 3.5 Mile Family Fun Run/Walk on October 27, but families need not be registered for the Run/Walk to attend the scavenger hunt. Those interested can sign up for the Run/Walk on this day and speak with MCM staff if they have questions or concerns. Families will receive a Training Guide to track their physical activity and give them practical tips to get started on an exercise routine.
The MCM’s daily programs complement these events by focusing on nutrition. Check out the calendar on MCM’s website to see a complete schedule of daily programming. Children can learn how to choose a balanced meal and create a mobile based on MyPlate nutrition.
To learn more about any of these programs, call Jennifer Peters at 765-286-1660 ext. 213 or visit www.munciechildrensmuseum.com.
