Wars and Rumors of War: US, Israel Preparing for War in Iran and Mideast Theater?
Eye on Iran and Syria, Israel hardens missile shield; Rumors of War and Strikes Against Iranian Missile Batteries
JERUSALEM, ISRAEL - In the Holy City of Jerusalem, there have been talks of an air strike on Iran that would enable Israel to more safely deal with Hezbollah and Syria without having to worry about Iran’s Shahab-3 ballistic missile batteries, which have a range of about 800 miles - more than enough to reach Israel.
The website RT.com reported:
Reports are surfacing of a US-Israeli plan to attack Iran’s ballistic missile batteries, giving Israel extra space to tackle Syria and Hezbollah. While no talks have been confirmed, anonymous sources claim that war plans have been put to paper.
An anonymous US military source told DEBKAfile, a website covering Israel-related security issues, that the US Air Force will be tasked with destroying Iran’s Shahab-3 ballistic missile batteries.
While Israel has publicly denied reports of this plan to attack Iran, last week’s talks with US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have left many wondering.
If current tensions with Iran increase - as well as problems in Syria escalating , some believe the US might attack Iran's nuclear facilities and missile batteries to try to protect Israel, according to a source in a recent briefing about the meeting in Israel.
Meanwhile, the Jerusalem Post is reporting that Iran is warning that the Syrian conflict may grow to engulf Israel and other nearby countries in the Middle East.
“The fire that has been ignited in Syria will take the fearful [Israelis] with it,” Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said on Sunday, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
