Hurricane Ernesto Aimed at Yucatan

Tropics stirring as Ernesto reaches hurricane strength

CHETUMAL, MEXICO - Tropical Storm Ernesto has been upgraded to a level 1 hurricane, making it the second of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season. It is expected to make landfall early Wednesday morning on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

U.S. National Hurricane Center said it had winds of 80 mph (129 kph) by late afternoon and was moving west-northwest at 15 mph (24 kph). It was centered about 140 miles (225 kilometers) east of Chetumal, Mexico.

Tourists and locals alike are bracing for the hurricane as preparations are being made to protect people and property from Mother Nature.
