Furby is Back for Christmas 2012
Top Toys of 2012: New 2012 Furby Edition On Sale Now and Going Fast
Staff Report
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - It wasn't that long ago that the original Furby was all the rage for Christmas back in 1998. Other Furby models were introduced over the years. Production of the original line-up continued until 2005.
From original Furbies, to baby Furbies, to Furby friends and other special editions like the Millennium Edition Furby, there was something for everyone. And while the original Furby didn't live up to all the hype for most, it was cherished and adored by some.
The big question this year? Is the 2012 Furby Worth the Money? To answer that, we need to look back at the original Furby (shown to the right) as well as look at some of the changes that have been made with the 2012 Furby (see photo of Yellow Furby below.)
The old Furby had solid eyes that were different colors. In fact, it was the eye color that made a lot of the Furby characters unique. Also, the original ears were made out of fabric.
Finally, the old Furby had a motion sensor and would "respond" (with gibberish known as Furbish) when someone activated the sensor.
The new 2012 Furby has different ears and the material is a bit different as well. Additionally, the eyes on the new Furby are digital.
The mouth stays the same and they still speak gibberish ... er, I mean Furbish.
There is an online dictionary now, however, and, of course, a smart phone app.
Priced (for now) below what the original Furby doll went for in the stores, it's looking like the Furby may make a triumphant return into pop culture.
