Spooky, Funny, and Hot Halloween Costumes for 2012

Homemade Halloween Costumes are Cool, but Many People Shopping Online in 2012

Staff Report

MUNCIE, IN - Local retailers are preparing for one of the busiest times of the year. Starting with October and Halloween and continuing with Black Friday, Cyber Monday and, of course, Christmas and other December holidays, retailers are here to remind us that there are many gifts to get.

When it comes to Halloween costumes, there are quite a few places in Muncie where you can purchase them. However, more and more people are shopping early and shopping online to make sure they get exactly what they want and to save money at the same time.

This year there are quite a few classic Halloween costumes that are popular, but the latest movies and television also provide a lot of options for children - and adults - who like to dress up for the holiday. We are going to go over some of the more popular costume ideas for Halloween 2012.

  • Flo the Insurance Lady - You most likely remember her from the TV commercials for Progressive insurance. She's not the first television commercial star to make it to a Halloween costume idea, but she's pretty hot for 2012. The good news is that it's a really simple costume to put together. It's really just buying a good Flo wig and having a white button-up shirt with a name tag.
  • Superhero Costumes - From Batman to Spiderman to the Avengers, there are a ton of comic book character costumes out there this year. We expect Spiderman and Captain America and the Avengers to do the best this year. It doesn't hurt that the Avengers movie has come out on DVD recently.
  • The Hunger Games - You'll need a bow and a little knowledge about the books or movies, but this is going to be a popular costume choice for a lot of tweens and teens this year most likely. Don't be surprised if you see a lot of Hunger Games costumes out there this year.
  • Snow White and the Huntsmen - You may not have noticed it, but there were quite a few Snow White movies that came out this year. And while the costume idea is still a good one for children, there are newer Snow White and the Huntsman costume ideas for adults as well. It's actually a good themed group costume idea.
  • Power Rangers - This is a classic costume idea that has been around for a while now, but you can be sure there will be quite a few Power Rangers trick-or-treating out there this year. You might even catch an adult or two dressed up as their favorite Power Ranger as a prank or joke.
  • Transformers - This is another franchise that is super popular with younger boys. The costumes can be really simple - basically a mask and color-themed clothes - or complex with something that actually transforms. If you start looking for a Transformers costume now, you're going to have a better chance of finding something everyone is happy with.

Variety is definitely the spice of life when it comes to Halloween costumes in 2012. If you drive around Muncie you are going to see the annual costume stores that pop-up as well as the one on McGalliard Road that is open all year long. However, it is a good idea to at least take a look online to see how the prices compare. Those that are smart will start their Halloween shopping now so they don't have to wait for the last moment.
