Best Easy Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

Unique, Funny and Easy Homemade Halloween Costumes and Ideas for the Last Minute

Staff Report

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - If you have waited this long, you are probably frantically searching for last minute Halloween costume ideas on your smartphone. It is too late to order a costume online, but you may be able to find something left at one of the stores. It is probably going to be something that thousands of other people didn't want - for a reason.

While you could not worry about dressing up, if you have children this may not be the best of ideas. It is said that the tradition of trick or treating began when townfolk became tired of all the "tricks" and began to bribe the children with treats every year. You do not want to get on the bad side of the children - especially the children of the corn. (The staff has wondered how the drought of 2012 will affect the Children of the Corn...)

In all seriousness, if you don't want to face the crowds and lack of costumes at most stores, we have some easy and unique homemade costume ideas that will have to do. Before we begin, it may be a good idea to set a reminder on your smart phone for around October 1, 2013 so that you remember to get your costume early next year!

Last Minute Costume Ideas for Halloween

You are going to need very little for some of these ideas while others may require you to scavenge through the house looking for this or that to finish the costume. Either way, you don't have many options left.

  • Goodwill Man - You still need to go to the store for this one, but hitting up your local Goodwill store, you should be able to come up with a costume (or ten of them) for very little money. You need to use your imagination for this one, but let the Goodwill be your inspiration.
  • Zombie - This is an easy costume. You will need a little make-up, but it is really all in the walk and the sounds you make or don't make as you scour the Earth looking for brains to eat. (We love the polite zombie song in the video below.)
  • Refrigerator Magnet - Maybe you have heard this one before, but all you need is a shoebox and a way to paint it black (not like the song but actually paint it black.) A magic marker may work in a pinch. Basically, you attach the black box to your back turning you into a ... wait for it ... refrigerator magnet. You may have to explain this one, but it's cheap, quick and easy.
  • Farmer - Plaid shirt, maybe a shovel and you have the good start of a farmer outfit. If you're a little courageous, you may want to go for a Farmville Farmer. You can spend the whole night bugging all your friends letting them know you just harvested 80 bushels of pumpkins - or something. (You know, to portray the way Facebook games are spread whether you like it or not!)
  • Indiana Jones - A fedora and a whip. You have an extra whip (or three) in the closet don't ya? Okay, maybe you don't. And if you do, you may want to go with another costume idea entirely. Still, going as Indiana Jones isn't a bad gig for the night. If you're a bit older, you could go as Indy's dad although if you do the accent people may think you are James Bond. Make sure to go with tweed.
  • Rosie the Riveter - Red lipstick, a red scarf and a blue jean shirt is all you need to pull this one off. Okay, a little attitude won't hurt. You may have to explain this one to some people, but if you're a history buff or a feminist, this can be a good costume idea.
