BSU Men’s Basketball Team Falls at Top-Ranked Indiana
BLOOMINGTON, IN - Majok Majok led the Ball State men’s basketball team with 18 points Sunday night, but the Cardinals fell to top-ranked Indiana, 101-53, at Assembly Hall.
Jauwan Scaife added 11 points for Ball State (2-2), which was playing away from home for the first time this season. Indiana (6-0) remained unbeaten after taking control of the game midway through the opening half.
Will Sheehey and Jordan Hulls led five Indiana players in double figures with 19 and 17 points, respectively. The duo combined to shoot 10-for-11 in the first half and keyed a 29-6 Hoosier run over the final eight minutes of the opening stanza.
Indiana finished the game shooting 60 percent from the floor, while Ball State finished the night at 31 percent shooting.
Majok hit 5-of-9 shots in the paint and also continued to make hay at the foul line, earning 12 free throw attempts and making eight of them. The junior college transfer has scored in double figures all four games this season with Sunday marking his top scoring performance so far.
Despite cold shooting as a team, Ball State was in the game through the middle of the first half. The Cardinals trailed 10-8 at the 14-minute mark and were still within eight at 21-13 with 8:30 to go before halftime. But the Hoosiers closed strong to take a 50-19 lead by the break.
Jesse Berry and Chris Bond each finished with eight points for Ball State, while Matt Kamieniecki matched his career high with nine rebounds.
Cody Zeller scored 15 points for Indiana and Victor Oladipo had 13, while Christian Watford recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Ball State now returns to Muncie to continue non-conference play Wednesday at Worthen Arena. The Cardinals will host Cleveland State for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
