Introduce Yourself

If you would take a moment to introduce yourself in the comments below, we can all get to know a little more about each other. I'll start. ;)I'm K. Paul Mallasch. I was born in Medina, OH, and raised in Cleveland, OH. My father and I moved here when I was a Senior in High School. I graduated from Muncie Central.

After graduation, I went back to Ohio for a while and started writing. After a year or so, I was back in Indiana. I still wrote, while juggling various pizza related jobs.

Somewhere along the line, I enrolled at Ball State University, trying for a major in Journalism and English, with a minor in American Studies. Some great years, those were. I went about five years, without getting a degree.

Near the end, I started working at The Star Press, starting part-time in the newsroom in August of 1998. After a few weeks (or months) of posting material to the web, I became bored and asked if I could program a better way to do it.

Eventually, I was introduced to Bob Reese, the IT (or, Systems as they called it) department. I moved my desk up to the third floor of the south building (where we could smoke!) and programmed away. I didn't know a lot, but I learned a lot quickly, spending many 20 hour days in the newspaper building, wandering around at all hours of the day and night.

Eventually, my position was replaced by that of the Online Manager, whose focus was more on revenue. This was after the Gannett purchase. I applied, not wanting to leave the newspaper, and think very narrowly succeeded in talking the publisher into letting me try it, even though I was more of a journo (a geek one at that) than a salesperson.

More stuff happened, blah blah blah. ;) I'm leaving a lot out, but basically I'm a 32 year old journalist, poet and pilgrim, trying to help change journalism for the better in America's Hometown.

What about you? What's your story?
