STATEHOUSE - Indiana Sen. Doug Eckerty (R-Yorktown) applauded Yorktown High School this week for being named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education:
“I’m thrilled to see one of our community’s schools recognized for its outstanding academic accomplishments,' the senator said.
“The combined efforts of students, parents, teachers and administrators have led to Yorktown High School’s success. It’s an honor to serve a community so focused on giving our children the best education possible. If we keep that goal in mind, Yorktown will continue to stand out as an excellent place to work and raise a family,” he added.
Eckerty recognized Yorktown Superintendent Jennifer McCormick and Principal Kelly Whittman during a Tuesday ceremony at the Legislature. The senator also is a member of the Senate Appropriation Committee that recommends spending for public schools and higher education.
The U.S. Department of Education recently listed Yorktown as a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School – one of eight Indiana schools to receive this honor. The Indiana Senate also passed a resolution to congratulate the school for its academic accomplishments.
