Muncie Casting expands, retains jobs in Muncie, IN

Free Press Report

MUNCIE, IN -  A local foundry that makes prototype castings for automotive transmission makers got tax breaks this week for a $300,000 expansion.

Muncie City Council granted property tax abatement to Muncie Casting Corp. on a plant expansion and equipment to build castings used for automobile transmissions.

Bob Buchert, company owner, said much of their work goes to Allison or Borg Warner, and the new equipment would help keep four jobs on that machine.

The company at 1406 E. 18th St., also got some public right of way vacated for the expansion, and it employs 40 people who earn about $2 million in yearly salaries.

Local economic development officials other expansions might be in store in 2013. And Yorktown officials recently talked about getting local government to build another shell building in the Park One industrial site on Interstate 69 at Ind. 332.
