MUNCIE, IN - Kristen Bobo works and studies hard which helped her win a congressional medal of service presented Friday by Congressman Luke Messer.
Bobo and her family, parents Chad and Jennifer Bobo, moved to Indiana from Mississippi to find opportunity which was a job her father now has at Dollar General warehouse near Gas City.
Messer presented the award Friday after a visit to Batesville High School where he talked with students.
The congressional award recognizes a students achievement in volunteering, personal development, physical fitness and expedition. Bobo won a bronze medal over 100 hours of volunteering at Muncie Public Library, learning how to bake a cake for her personal development, running a 10 minute mile for physical fitness, and exploring state historic sites.
Bobo is home schooled, and her mother, Jennifer, said her daughter is a great reader and hard worker.
Her father liked the work at the warehouse, and said there was more opportunity in the Midwest than the South.
Messer said any student can participate in the program and there was no limit to the medals handed out for service.
