MUNCIE, IN - The Muncie Sanitary District is making final efforts to clear up remaining delinquent accounts from the thousands just a few months ago.
The amnesty period offered four months ago to customers with outstanding balances allowed them to make arrangements to clear up past due accounts. In addition to offering payment plans. The sanitary district waived attorney fees and court costs.
The sanitary district also informed the public with direct mailings to customers while the newspaper and other media featured stories about the amnesty program.
Customers that still need to make arrangements are encouraged to contact the sanitary district immediately to avoid any interruption in water service. The sanitary district is willing to extend payment options up to two years.
Collection of these delinquent accounts is important to all customers of the sanitary district to avoid any additional expenses being assessed. And keeping the accounts out of the court system frees up valuable resources for the community.
The sanitary district coordinated with Indiana American Water Co. to shut off water service to customers that do not contact the district to clear up their accounts. The process will not only interrupt service but impose additional fees to turn the water back on after an agreement is reached.
Customers can contact the sanitary district utility office located in the first floor at Muncie City Hall, 300 N. High St. The telephone is (765) 747-4894.
