Ball State Football Team and Coaches Pay Respect

Free Press Report

MUNCIE, IN - Some of Muncie's great generation got a salute on Saturday by members of the Ball State University football team. A band of brothers including World War II veterans Fred Glancy, Marines; Jack Isenbarger, and Fred Chambers, Army and Elmer Cox, Navy, shook hands with every member of the team besides the coaching staff led by Pete Lembo.

Glancy, 91, a retired school administrator, fought in Iwo Jima, and recalled how troops would line up and shake hands with military leaders.
"This takes me back," said Glancy.

Cox, a retired railroad worker and former city lawmaker was honored by the recognition as was fellow former city lawmaker Isenbarger, who also was a state government executive.

Look for this group to appear on WIPB-TV in a documentary on veterans for next week's Sept. 11 recognition. Ford helped sponsor the event and also had a gathering for the veterans who watched the Ball State Army game.
