Muncie Trash Pickup Cancelled Monday and Tuesday

MUNCIE, INDIANA (NEWS) - Due to the incoming significant winter storm The Muncie Sanitary District will not pick up trash on Jan. 6 and 7.

MSD will resume trash pick up on Wed. Jan. 8, any missed trash will be picked up the following week. Bitterly cold temperatures and below zero wind chills will make it dangerous for their collectors.

Sanitation trucks will be used for snow removal during this weather event. The safety of their employees is a top priority.

Muncie City Hall will be available for emergency shelter assistance as needed Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. City Hall will be closed for normal government business Monday. The first floor will be open for emergency shelter assistance as needed.

All Fire Stations are available to the public for emergency shelter assistance. City officials are in communication with Delaware County Emergency Management and Red Cross to provide shelter and assistance as needed.

The combination of heavy snow accumulation and bitterly cold winds possibly exceeding 20-30 below zero can be a deadly combination to the public safety and well being.  Street Department and Sanitary District plow crews will be out Sunday and Monday.

The public has been asked to keep off streets as much as possible Sunday unless it's an emergency. Please do not park vehicles on roads and streets to allow plows and emergency vehicles better access across City as needed. Vehicles parked along snow routes and blocking plow crews and emergency vehicles will be towed as needed.
