Ball State Loses at GoDaddy Bowl

MOBILE, ALA. - A blocked kick ended Ball State's hope for it's first bowl victory Sunday night.

Arkansas State had a miracle comeback, winning the GoDaddy Bowl 23-20.

Red Wolves coach John Thompson thanked God and talked about protecting the family in a thrilling two minute finish.

Ball State quarterback Keith Wenning had problems early connecting with receivers and then a drought in the second half along with an interception. Some called it his worse game in this storied career.

But the Cardinals came back going ahead 20-16 in the fourth quarter, but that miracle touchdown from Arkansas State backup quarterback Fredi Knighten won the game. Knighten was proclaimed most valuable player besides known to team members as Fredi Football.

Ball State kicker Scott Secor had an easy field goal to tie the game, but Ball State's offensive line that allowed Wenning to be sacked could not hold the Arkansas State rush.

Pete Lembo, BSU football coach looked upset after the game, knowing the team lost a chance to win. He had been interviewing for jobs during the post season, but was still at the will of Ball State for the bowl game.

Ball State now remains winless during 40 years of bowl play. With a losing men's basketball team, look for changes in the sports program when a new president is named this year..
