Congressman Luke Messer Votes for Omnibus Budget Bill

WASHINGTON DC - Today Congressman Luke Messer voted for the 2014 Consolidated Appropriations Act (H.R. 3547).  The legislation provides funding for the federal government for the remainder of the current fiscal year.  Congressman Messer released the following statement on the bill’s passage:

“This bill is an imperfect result of an imperfect process.  But, it is in many ways a victory for those who believe Washington spends too much.  It avoids a government shutdown, restores funds cut by the sequester and reduces overall discretionary spending for the fourth year in a row – something that hasn’t happened since the Korean War.  Now, we need to address our nation’s most serious fiscal challenge: strengthening entitlement programs for current beneficiaries and future retirees without busting the budget.”
