FREE PRESS REPORT
MUNCIE, INDIANA (NEWS) - Opponents of House Joint Resolution 3 (HJR-3) will hold a town hall meeting on Thursday, February 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Muncie.
Jon Sutton and Ali Zuidervliet from Freedom Indiana will provide an update on the status of HJR-3, which is currently being debated in the Indiana Senate. They will share steps that the organization is taking to oppose the amendment. Freedom Indiana is a statewide bipartisan coalition of businesses, faith leaders, civil rights and community organizations, and individuals united to defeat HJR-3, formerly known as HJR-6.
This amendment duplicates existing state law. It would permanently ban all protections for same-sex couples and their families and remove existing protections for unmarried Hoosiers.
In December, the members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Muncie (UUCM) voted unanimously to oppose HJR-3. Muncie mayor Dennis Tyler subsequently announced his opposition to the amendment, and then in January, the Muncie City Council unanimously passed a resolution opposing HJR-3.
Free childcare is available during the town hall by scheduling in advance. Contact the church office at (765) 288-9561 to make a reservation by Monday, February 10.
