By Heather Collins

MUNCIE, INDIANA (NEWS) - The 15th annual Downtown Ribfest will take place in Downtown Muncie at Canan Commons on Saturday, August 24th and continue on Sunday.

This is the first year the finger-lickin’ event will take place at the 500 block of S. Walnut known as Canan Commons.

The event will feature two outdoor stages, ribs galore, DWNTWN Express kiddie train rides, waterfall attraction, Cornfed Derby Dames Dunk Tank, Animal Scooters and Muncie’s Best Ribs Contest.

“I think it will be interesting to have everything compressed into one large square footprint as opposed to being linear. It will be cool to be able to have all that energy in one place,” said Cheryl Crowder, Director of Downtown Development.

Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, a three-piece American country blues outfit, will headline the event. Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band features Reverend Peyton’s deep rootsy vocals along with  his renowned finger-picking stylings across a 1930 steel-bodied National Guitar, as well as, “Washboard” Breezy Peyton on washboard, and Ben “Bird Dog” Bussell on drums.

Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band have opened for Flogging Molly, licensed four songs to the Showtime series Shameless, and have had several featured showcases at the South by Southwest music conference.

If you’re a fan of hollering, ’30s and ‘40s gritty blues music, over-alls, The Hooten Hallers, or if you believe Wal-Mart killed the country store, you’re sure to enjoy Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band’s big performance at Ribfest.

The event begins at noon on Saturday until 10 p.m. and continues on Sunday, August 25th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band will perform at 8 p.m. on the Canan Commons stage with an opening performance by local bluegrass band, The Stampede String Band.

More than 20 bands will perform on two outdoor stages during the event. Admission is $5, and kids 10 and under are free both days.

During the event, there will be guest appearances by BSU’s Charlie Cardinal, as well as, a workout demonstration by The Arsenal Crossfit.
