Eric Rinehart Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Producing Child Pornography
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Susan W. Brooks, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, announced today the guilty plea and sentencing of Eric Rinehart, age 34, formerly of Middletown, Indiana, for two counts of producing child pornography involving visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct. The guilty plea followed an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Indiana State Police. Eric Rinehart was arrested this summer at his Middletown home by state police and FBI agents. Soon after, a federal grand jury indicted the police officer on three charges: possession of child pornography and two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
Rinehart was sentenced today in Indianapolis to 180 months of imprisonment by U.S. District Judge David F. Hamilton. Rinehart's camera and computer was also forfeited to the government.
Rinehart admitted that he produced sexually explicit pictures and movies involving minors who were 16 and 17 years old at the time. Rinehart formerly worked as a police officer in Middletown, Indiana.
According to Assistant United States Attorney Steven DeBrota, who prosecuted the case for the government, Rinehart was also ordered to serve a period of supervised release for the remainder of his life following his term of imprisonment.
