South Muncie Gateway Project
We often learn of a local development project after the planning is done and the project has been set in motion, and then (inevitably) there are folks who don't like what's happening, and complain that the public had little or no input in the planning of the project.
Well, here's your chance to voice your opinion before the pencil ever hits the paper on The South Muncie Gateway Project, which will utilize over $217,000 of federal money Muncie received in September of 2004.The SM Gateway Project focuses on the current epicenter of South Muncie development: 29th Street (Highway 35) and Macedonia Avenue (Highway 3). Southside High School is located on the northwest corner of this intersection, the future Wal-Mart facility will go in the southwest corner, and Horne Properties is planning for additional commercial development on the southeast corner. The project will extend from the intersection south along the 3 to the 67 bypass, and if funding allows, west to Madison Street.
At the June 16 meeting of the South Muncie Community Development Corporation (SMCDC), BSU Prof. German Cruz (whose architecture students competed by submitting their individual concepts for evaluation some months ago) presented the top three Gateway concepts to the SMCDC. We now have these concepts available online for the public to view (click the link below).
By clicking on the optimized images presented in the article, you open the full-size concept images in new windows so you can study them in greater detail.
In addition, you can vote on your favorite concept by simply selecting it, and clicking the "VOTE!" button, located just below the images. Registered users can also leave comments. The results of the voting and commentary will be presented at the next SMCDC meeting on July 21.
This is your opportunity to participate in the planning stages of the SM Gateway Project, and to influence the eventual outcome. So drop by and let your voice be heard, already!
