Ten High Travelers bring Folk to Muncie Music Scene

MUNCIE, IN - Growing up together in Albany Indiana, Josh Bertram and Stu Gates have been inseparable since they were 7 years old. The two always felt music was there calling, idolizing such musicians as Bob Dylan and Neil Young.
After traveling around the country performing as solo acoustic players at various open mic nights and live shows, the two decided it was time to bring their dream to life: integrate both of their unique playing styles and create a “folksy blues band,” the Ten High Travelers.
Ten High Travelers began about a year ago, and now play weekly on Sundays at Muncie’s local burger and juke joint, Folly Moon. Bertram and Gates pay a lot of their success to the bar’s owner Mike Martin, saying he helped them discover their potential.

MUNCIE, IN - The Muncie Symphony Orchestra has brought esteemed culture to the diverse city of Muncie for 64 years, and they don’t plan on stopping now. The Muncie Symphony Orchestra has a new leading Executive Director, Alena McKenzie, who has big plans for the MSO in the coming new year.
“We really want to reach out to the community.” Says McKenzie. The MSO has aspired to this outreach goal by providing free community and educational concerts sprinkled throughout their musical season. “We are trying to mix genres and want to hear people’s feedback.”
Coming up in January 2013, the MSO has three chamber events set to dazzle the public. One of the more active events takes place on January 19th in front of Macy’s at Muncie Mall.
The chamber will play lively music and dancers will float effortlessly across the floor but, there’s a twist. Those watching the performance can then try their luck as the dancer’s become instructors and guide couples through the routine.
Also in January on the 30th, a free community kids concert featuring Nick Kendall will be available for all Muncie and surrounding schools. Kendall will dazzle kids with his captivating playing style and extraordinary talent on the violin.
Muncie Gras 2012 a huge success
MUNCIE, IN - Wall to wall people is what made Muncie Gras 2012 great Saturday night as music rocked and boobs popped out for the annual downtown party.
And every hotel room in Muncie was booked, according to some travelers who had to travel to Anderson to find a room and compete with Hoosier Park patrons and that Church of God crowd. Muncie Gras, along with a big women's soccer match at Ball State University, kept the hotel, food and beverage industry going strong for a weekend of spring break.

Gerard Smith: Bassist for TV on the Radio Dies
According to the TMZ website and other sources, the following note was left on the website for TV On the Radio.
"We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer. We will miss him terribly."
The band's website confirms the information. Smith was 34 years old. The band announced the information the middle of last month.
