Trail in Yorktown IN gets green light amid property owner objections
By Rick Yencer
MUNCIE, IN - A walking trail down busy River Road will proceed despite objections from landowners who do not want to give up their front yards for it.
Nearly $1 million will be spend on a pedestrian and bicycle trail from Morrison Road to County Road 500W. And that trail to help reduce auto emissions could begin by 2014.
Flo Lapin, one of the affected property owners, told of maintaining her property and right of way, adding she had a right to defend her property from government and planned to do just that,
Other residents questioned the project's cost while a Muncie woman, Kim Thompson said she supported the trail and had no problem putting on in her yard.

MUNCIE, IN - The new mecca for Muncie, Yorktown, and Delaware County at McGalliard and Nebo roads will be the site to welcome visitors to the attractions of Ball State University, Minnestrista Cultural Center, the Academy for Model Aeronautics and sports parks for Muncie and Yorktown.
Delaware County Commissioners hired a consultant on Monday to design plans to widen Nebo, build a welcome center and do some gateway work for the community. The site at Ind. 332 across from Menards and Meijer's already will be home to an auto mall representing American and Kiat dealerships across from the Toyota dealership.
And look for the 10,000 square foot welcome center for the Muncie Visitors Bureau to have a green space for those coming to the community to play, study or just hang out.
James Mansfield, visitors bureau director, provided the evidence for a visitors portal on McGalliard after the bureau moved to South Madison Street after First Merchants gave it an empty bank.
More than 73 percent of local visitors come in on Ind. 332 where Yorktown has the high ground at Interstate 69 and then becomes Muncie at Nebo.
